Purpose is Everything

Do you ever randomly think to yourself “why didn’t I start doing this earlier?”

“If I started during Covid, I would be 4 years ahead of where I am now.”

PURPOSE IS EVERYTHING

All throughout high school, my goal was to get a into a good college. I ran track and participated in a few clubs, but never really applied myself to be the best.

In college, my goal was to get a well paying job. I had a lot of fun along the way, made some friends, and hold some crazy stories to reflect on.

I graduated as part of the pandemic class with a fire in my eye.

I was interviewing for top companies like Deloitte, Capital One, and Amazon. After many failed interviews and canceled job opportunities due to the coronavirus, I was left with one offer.

I thought the offer’s salary was too low and decided not to call back.

A week later, the same interviewer called me and asked if I was still interested in the job.

After realizing this was going to be my best opportunity, I took the job.

During my first week, I told one of my coworkers there was no chance I would be here a year from now. She laughed and agreed with me.

Fast forward 4 years later, I am still at the company and make a heck of a lot more money than I ever thought I would be making at 26.

If I told my 16 year old self this, he’d have a huge smile across his face. “You’re making how much??”

I can say I accomplished my goal from college. “Get a well paying job”.

Well, let’s face it. Money can make you very happy.

You CAN buy things that make you happy like a trip to Europe, a new car, heck even pizza makes people happy.

However, as cliche as it sounds, happiness is temporary and fleeting.

You can buy happiness, feel euphoric for a few minutes, then go right back to feeling sad and/or dissatisfied with your life.

I’ve been there. Most people have.

So what’s the solution? Just keep buying things?

Sure, if you want the easy way out. It is not my way though.

For me, the answer is simple.

In order to have a fulfilling life, you must live your purpose.

Reflect on those three words for a few minutes.

What does living your purpose mean?

My purpose right now is prioritizing myself.

My actionable goal is to reach peak physical and mental health.

This goal has no definable end. Which means I can continue at it for as long as it stays my top priority.

I wake myself up by asking what I can do to “live my purpose”.

Does this actually make me happy?

Not going to lie, at first pizza made me happier.

HOWEVER, now that my purpose has become a part of my lifestyle, I am more fulfilled and motivated than ever.

I am no longer targeting a goal that will result in fleeting happiness like I was in high school and college.

I am in the best mental and physical shape of my life and feel amazing as a result.

In summary, start by living your purpose and the stars will start aligning.

Once aligned, you’ll have a map to get you to where you must go.
